Centre for Continuing Education Kerala (CCEK)

The Programme begin as part of the Canada India Institutional Cooperation Project (CIICP) that was initiated in 1995. In a coup of sorts, Indian Government got the Government of Canada to lend support. Born as a project involving Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the CIICP consisted of 13 polytechnics and 10 Canadian colleges.

When the Candian Government withdrew financial assistance, the Kerala Government decided to continue the project its own. Centre for Continuing Education, established in 1998 as an autonomous body under the state government, today has 67 sub centres. These include Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics and Arts and Science Colleges.

Each sub centre has an advisory committee that comprises the college/school principal, staff and manager of the Continuing Education Programme.

The centres impart need-based training to the unemployed youth, provide special training for small scale industries, publish study material for regular and distance education programme and conduct vocational training. The centre also runs an engineering college at Munnar.

The objective of the centre has been to make optimum use of the under utilized infrastructure in educational institutions and make it income generating.

Today the Centre for Continuing Education Kerala an autonomous body set up by the Government of Kerala, promotes continuing education programmes in Engineering Colleges / Arts & Science Colleges and Polytechnics in the state of Kerala. The centre is dedicated entirely to the growth and development of technical education, industry, business and social amelioration.

Aims & Objectives of the Centre

    • To impart need based training to unemployed youth to increase their employability in key sectors of our economy.
    • To offer full time, part-time, formal and non-formal programmes to upgrade the management skills to small-scale business and industry.
    • To provide special training on small business development utilizing locally available resources.
    • To conduct vocational training to meet the specific needs of industry and business.
    • To conduct retraining for professionals and executives in Industry, Business and Service sector so as to enable them to cope with the fast changing technological and managerial environment.
    • To conduct in service training to workers in the industries of organized and unorganized sectors for enhancement of productivity and equip them to meet the challenges of changing technologies.
    • To establish partnership with industries and commerce for identifying human resource requirement and training needs.
    • To make training needs analysis of specific sectors and plan and organize suitable training programmes for them.
    • To establish Centres of Excellence of Higher Education.
    • To organize need based locally relevant courses for skill development.
    • To develop and publish training materials for regular and distance education programmes.
    • To identify the areas in which distance education and open learning methods are appropriate and to design and conduct such programmes.
    • To identify potential areas of employment and to conduct competency based skill development programmes.
    • To undertake such other activities as are relevant to fulfill the objectives of the centre.

Continuing Education sub-center of this college is affiliated to the Center for Continuing Education, Kerala offers both short and long term job-oriented courses which have great response from the general public
